5001 MÉXICO A CABALLO

I am Long Rider Chris MacLuckie. With honor I once again set off on my trusty Morgan mare Roxy to set an example of working horse health.

In April the long ride begins in the Guatemalan Highlands followed by a year long tour through horse-loving Mexico.

This time, I will be riding less each day and month to make time for sharing more horse videos, interviews, and stories both online and with my hosts.

HORSES, HORSE HEALTH, AND HORSES AS THERAPY.

Throughout my trip I look forward to offering presentations with my hosts. I will cover 4 topics:

  1. How to travel down the road successfully
  2. Fitting a saddle that can hold gear and is comfortable for both horse and rider
  3. Hoof care (barefoot and easyboot)
  4. How feed affects health and especially foot health.

Keep up to date with our mission here, and on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Soundcloud.

Month 6 | THE LAST MONTH

Month 6 | THE LAST MONTH of 5001: Mexico a Caballo I'm putting the 4 weeks of Month 6 together because they are the final four weeks of our second solo journey. 4 weeks spent resting Roxy and getting set up with an English teaching job. I rode very little for these...

Preparation and Persistence

"Stretch your mind |Adapt |Hang loose and be ready...Otherwise get left behind..." Chris MacLuckie This was the first day of my first journey by horse. But it was 3 years after dedicating myself completely to learning what I needed to endure a year long ride. I made...

Month 5 | Takeaways

Here are my 5 takeaways from Month 5: *Mexican Horse culture *Cities and Towns *Hoof care *Teaching English *Team   Mexican Horse culture The horse culture in Mexico is pretty substantial. As I reached the Mexican altiplano, the ranch horses of the coast were...

WEEK 19 | México a Caballo

"We can move water easily with plastic pipes. We can move shade around with nursery cloth like a tinker toy for animals and plants. Yet we have developed this necessity to grow food with chemical fertiliser because we have forgotten the magic of manure." Joel Salatin...
I decided to go on another trip back to Mexico for a couple fundamental reasons.

I wanted to finish my ride with a bang and to do that I needed to focus 100% on horses. For me and several other Long Riders, México is the Mecca of horse riding. As I successfully completed 1 long ride, what better way to celebrate doing another long ride than doing it in the country where they do more horse rides than anywhere else in the world?

Mexico IS horses, and I look forward to sharing what I know about horse travel with the Mexicans I meet as well as with the world via this site and my books. Chris MacLuckie
