Eli Miller is a saddle maker and leather worker based out of Kentucky.
He started building saddles about 40 years ago, mostly western, when he lived in western New York.
I was humbly gifted a 1st Gen Orthoflex to use as a replacement for the Big Horn Endurance 120 saddle I used on the 1st 1000 miles of my solo horse ride from Canada to Guatemala.
We do around 15 miles a day. I walk up and down steep hills. I have begun to jog and shuffle. I let roxy graze when there is nice pasture at the side of the road. I get on and off her up to at least a dozen times a day.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had to replace my English saddle for the trip. At the time I was trying a modernized version of a cavalry saddle. I loved it but it was too narrow for roxy. I then tried an Icelandic gaited saddle, it was too wide. I then tried a used big horn endurance saddle, model 120.
We left perth on Sunday sept the 15.
I stayed at my friend corals house and got to hang out with her and her partner Eric and two children for 3 days.
This is the 5000 mile, 18 month, horse RIDE route. Without the people I meet along the way, I won’t be able to do this trip.
Many people have helped me behind the scenes with my tack and travel logistics.
Their support has been invaluable.
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!!
Tack and gear, shots for me and the horse, visiting an endurance horse racing event, the charity auction, getting my new saddle, getting camp ready.
It’s June and there are bugs galore. As many of you have questioned, why haven’t you already left, why are you waiting til September?
